Born in Cairo

Marie was born in Cairo, Egypt. When she was four years old her family migrated to Perth Western Australia, on the Australia ship arriving at the Port of Fremantle.

She has memories of dining by the Nile River and seeing the Pyramids of Giza only 30 minutes away from the city.

Her mother always cooked Egyptian food throughout her childhood and continued to do so throughout her adult life. One of her fondest memories was watching her mother plant Molokhia and broad beans. Among other seeds, her mother packed them in a suitcase for their new home in Australia.

Marie learnt how to cook Egyptian food and has passed down the recipes to her three daughters and hopes that they will be passed on to future generations.
